Some groups use teamyell 'People Categories' to categorise their people: The member page people - category page allows categories to be set up & people assigned to the categories:

  
You can use the 'Edit' and 'Delete' links to change an existing category. The 'Add' link adds a new category as a child of the existing category. You can also change the parent of a category by dragging the category and dropping it on top of the new parent category.

There are a few more member pages that use people categories: In all windows, selected a 'parent' category will show people assigned direct to that category and any 'child' categories. In the above example, selecting 'Elected Roles' will show two people - the Secretary and the Treasurer.

People can belong to several categories at the same time.

The "Edit roster" page uses People Categories to make rostering simplier:
When there are less than 20 people in the group they are all visible in the "Available People" list at the same time. When there are more than 20 people in the group, the "Available People" list has to scroll to show them all. When people are assigned to Categories, an extra selection appears. By default it shows everyone. If you select a Category, only people who are assigned to that Category are shown, making it easy to find people quickly. If you select "By Category", Categories are shown (instead of people) allowing you to roster whole categories of people easily.
